Mike Shands served 24 years in the Army, as both an enlisted soldier and a commissioned officer. He held a variety of positions over that time, primarily within the Military Police Corps and Special Forces. He retired in 2007. Mike then joined APi Group, serving as the Vice President of Leadership Development for 19 years. He retired from his full-time role at APi in 2026. However, he continues to support them part-time.

As Mike transitioned into retirement, he was looking for an opportunity to support an organization dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Mike was drawn to 23rd Veteran, and its mission, because of his experience serving within both the military and first responder communities. Mike is married to his wife of over 30 years and a very proud father and grandfather. In his personal time, he enjoys traveling with his family and playing a round of golf now and then.
